12-hour darts marathon raises over £1200 for residents!

Team Beeches participated in a 12-hour darts marathon, here’s how it went!

Sunnier days are coming and the residents at The Beeches love spending time in our beautiful gardens over the warmer months. We are regularly tidying and tending to the garden as we think it’s important to get as much fresh air and sunshine as possible. Not only is it good for the body, it’s also good for the mind.

Some of the residents at The Beeches have dementia. Spending time outside can help to reduce agitation, aggression, and prevent wandering.

Our garden furniture had seen better days, so we came up with the idea of a fundraiser to buy new furniture for The Beeches garden – a 12-hour darts marathon!

The mammoth darts marathon was held at the Duncow in Bardwell, on Saturday 25th March. The marathon involved a team of participants, all of whom were staff at the home, taking turns over the course of 12 hours to throw hundreds of darts!

Bev Shave, Deputy Manager at The Beeches organised the event alongside Activities Coordinator Mel Annessm. Bev even threw some darts herself. She said: “We had so much fun doing the challenge. We managed to raise a whopping £1212 for our garden furniture!

“Thank you so much to everyone who took part and those that donated to our worthy cause. We appreciate the effort that everyone put into the day and we couldn’t have done it without you.

“We had a great time playing darts and bonding as a team. A special thanks to Alan and Denise at the pub for their hospitality. Thanks to the local people for donating, and finally my team for being such good sports”.

The team was welcomed by the owners of the pub. The hospitable pub owners also treated them to an amazing spread as they took on the challenge.

Now the garden will be summer-ready! Our residents can spend time admiring the aviary and interacting with our pet goats, Jack and Jill!
